Gallery walls are such a fun way to make a statement in your home. But, it is easy for gallery walls to feel cluttered and busy, so striking a balance is important. You might also find yourself simply wanting to update your gallery wall, but you are uncertain of what to do.
Here are some quick tips to be aware of with a gallery wall:
1. be choosy about using small photographs and items. They can get lost in the 'collection' and make the wall feel cluttered. alternate idea: arrange small items closer together in a shape. Ex: all small photographs tightly hanged in the shape of a heart.
2. arrange using lines. This is harder to explain without a picture, but hang things on similar lines, both horizontally and/or vertically. align corners. Aligning items using lines helps create cohesion even among dissimilar items.
3. edit, edit, edit. This is so necessary for me, especially with items that have any sentimental value to me. Yes, I love that sign that my friend painted for me, but I need to admit that it doesn't fit on my gallery wall, and then move on.
I was so excited when instagram user @motherof4brothers posted a before and after of her gallery wall. It gave me the perfect side by side example. Her first wall is beautiful and homey. But, her second wall make a much more concise and clear statement and is cleaner.
